Fred Wedlock Memorial Concert raises over £6,000

for "Forever Friends Appeal"

The Fred Wedlock Memorial Concert held at the Conygre Hall, Timsbury on Friday 29th June was a fitting tribute to the West Country legend who would have celebrated his 70th birthday this year.

Acker Bilk supported by the Blue Notes Jazz Band headed the line up of the very mixed entertainment on offer. The packed audience applauded the West Country's own clarinet player and Acker enjoyed the evening telling jokes and stories in between his renditions. Fred's daughter Hannah sang with Acker. It was a very special tribute evening to Fred.

Three Piece Suite, a folk group who supported Fred when he was on tour arranged a song in his memory. The Savages Swing Band opened the evening and the Bath RUH Choir sang whilst fish and chips were enjoyed by all.

"It was a wonderful evening and I know Fred would have had a great time with his friends and fellow performers. The expression on people's faces said it all. I could not have wished for a more fitting tribute to my husband. I was asked to join the Committee of the Forever Friends Appeal which is linked to the Bath RUH raising funds for a Cancer Care Centre. Fred did so much for charity and this cause was of significant importance as Fred died of cancer. I am very pleased that over £6,000 was raised," said Sue Wedlock
